CNC Field Service Technician
Haffner Machinery North America
Location: Midwest preferred, near a major airport
Arrangement: Independent contractor / 1099
Compensation: Approximately $35/hour initially; open to discussion based on qualifications
The opportunity
Haffner Machinery North America is seeking an experienced technician to install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and service CNC production machinery at customer facilities, primarily across the central and western United States.
This opportunity suits someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, travel, and ownership of their assignments. You will represent Haffner directly with customers, coordinate your onsite work, and train the people who operate and maintain the equipment.
Prior window and door industry experience is helpful but not required. We are interested in transferable experience with CNC machinery, automated production equipment, precision equipment, or comparable technical systems.
How the work is organized
Haffner prepares and tests machines at its Montreal facility before shipment to customers. This includes calibration, software and program loading, running parts, and customer factory acceptance testing.
The field technician generally joins the process at the customer site, coordinating arrival with the equipment shipment and completing installation, final calibration, operational verification, and customer training. A typical installation takes approximately two weeks.
Travel varies with customer demand. There may be several weeks between assignments, followed by two consecutive weeks onsite. Some assignments require weekend work or training to accommodate customer operations.
Between customer assignments, you will have considerable latitude in organizing your ongoing technical development through manuals, online tutorials, and other training. The expectation is at least 40 billable hours per week, including assigned training during quieter periods.
Initial equipment training takes place in Montreal. Additional training or occasional factory acceptance support may also require travel there. A future trip to Turkey is possible.
Responsibilities
There may also be opportunities to support regional trade shows or equipment demonstrations. The scope will be discussed during the interview process.
Qualifications
Relevant aviation, avionics, or other precision-equipment experience will also be considered where the candidate can demonstrate transferable troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
Contractor arrangement
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity with straight-time hourly billing and no overtime premium. It does not include a US employee benefits package.
The initial rate under discussion is approximately $35/hour, with flexibility based on experience and qualifications. Travel per diem is provided; travel billing and expense arrangements will be explained during the interview process.
A portable tool setup suitable for airline travel is required. Haffner provides a tool shopping list; purchasing, reimbursement, and ownership arrangements will be agreed upon.
Existing business ownership or an LLC is not a prerequisite to an initial conversation. Candidates should be comfortable discussing an independent contractor arrangement and taking responsibility for their work.
